Janel Moloney and Bradley Whitford in The West Wing (1999)

Goofs

A Proportional Response

The West Wing

Edit

Continuity

In the harried Oval Office before President Bartlett announces the airstrikes in Syria, he borrows CJ's glasses, as his are still missing. As Charlie interrupts to suggest they're in his private study, the President removes the borrowed glasses. When the camera cuts back to Charlie, President Bartlett can be seen removing the glasses in the TV monitor feed. The feed seems to be real-time, not delayed, so he seems to remove the glasses twice.
Right before they introduce Charlie to the president, Sam Seaborn is wearing glasses in one shot, is without them the next, and then has them on again.
Actress Kim Webster had a recurring role in the series as Ginger, a Communications office assistant. In this episode only, her character is not referred to by name, and she appears in the credits as Kim.

Factual errors

It is mentioned that one of the weapons used in the strike on Syria is the AIM-54 Phoenix missile. This is an air-to-air missile and no person in the episode mentions any aerial engagements with the Syrian Air Force, therefore this missile would not of been used. There is no reason for the President to mention it in his speech.

Incorrectly regarded as goofs

Josh tells Charlie, during his interview, that Ms. DiLaguardia was instructed to keep an eye out for special applicants for the personal aide to the president position. In a later season, it is revealed that Ms. Fiderer is who referred Charlie to Josh for the position. However, when Ms. Fiderer is first introduced she specifically points out that she was, but is no longer, Mrs. DeLaGuardia due to a divorce. She's the same person.

Revealing mistakes

When ADM Fitzwallace enters Leo McGarry's office to speak to him about the 'proportional response' by President Bartlett, his military ribbons are upside down. When he turns at the door and speaks to Leo before leaving the room, the ribbons are right-side up, but only in the final shot before he walks away.

Audio/visual unsynchronised

The audio is obviously not in sync with the video when Bartlet talks to Charlie about cop killer bullets.
