John Travolta's farewell performance as Vinnie Barbarino
kevinolzak25 June 2016
"Barbarino's Baby" served as the series farewell for John Travolta, reduced to a total of ten episodes this fourth season. Jane Dulo as Nurse Bonney (her second and last appearance) continues to assign orderly Barbarino to 'tile hygiene,' meaning mopping the restrooms yet again. Vinnie wants to accomplish something more in his hospital occupation, but she remains unconvinced. Barbarino is assigned to look after a very pregnant Mrs. Fishbein (Mary Jo Catlett), her sports crazy husband (Henry Corden) by her side. Unfortunately, the power goes out while the couple and all five Sweathogs are trapped together in the elevator. Nurse Bonney advises the expectant mother not to cry (this is her 8th child), before offering the same advice to Horshack! The 'maternity elevator' soon features the cries of a newborn baby boy, followed by an unexpected promotion to emergency, inspiring Vinnie to actually kiss Nurse Bonney on the lips: "if I'd known you were gonna do that, I'd have given you this assignment sooner!" Gabe Kaplan is again absent, but would be present for the last two episodes, but for John Travolta this was goodbye to Vinnie Barbarino, earning $2000 per episode and 'Special Guest Star' billing this final season.
