- Following an Indian attack on their stagecoach that kills his prisoner, Randall and an eastern gentleman unaccustomed to the ways of the West must trek to safety across many long, hot miles of hostile Apache territory.
- The Kreager brothers are in the middle of Indian country, where the Apache are on the warpath, hoping to catch the stagecoach carrying their brother. He is Josh's prisoner, wanted for robbery and murder. The stage is attacked by the Apaches killing the driver, shotgun and Josh's prisoner. However, Josh and the easterner Jefferson Klingsmith survive inside the coach as the Apaches ride off. After burying the bodies they light out on foot for the next relay station 20 miles away across the desert. There they find it burned so, after again burying the bodies, Josh decides they should take the shorter route cross country to Fort Apache as the other stations will be burned with Apaches in the area. At the same time Jefferson does not trust Josh's motives or western ways. They walk near an Apache camp where Josh kills one guard who attacked him followed by a fight with a young brave who they capture and take prisoner. After Josh destroys his Indian Medicine, he leads them to a poisoned water hole and escapes. They must continue on foot with no water trailed by Apaches and the Kreager brothers.—Anonymous
