'Ole 'Pops' Nearly Steals The Show!

Filmmakers love to show corrupt authority figures, but you didn't see that as much back in the classic-era day which includes television in the 1950s. However, we have a corrupt sheriff in this episode, aptly named "Pig."

"Pig" and his partners, which include railroad men, are in the business of killing Pinkerton agents and collecting reward money for bring the killers to the justice....except they hang innocent people in the process.

Josh Randall comes to the aid of the most recent man charged with the crime, a young kid who had run away from home. Randall gets the full story from him and goes looking for the train's brakeman ("Bruno," played by Mort Mills, another familiar face but unfamiliar name) the man who is the real killer. Josh finds out where he lives but the killer is tipped off. Randall is ambushed and belted in the back of the head by a man wielding a two-by-four.

The story goes on from there. It's a good one. Speaking of "good," it's always good to see Edgar Buchanan in one of these westerns. In this one, as Josh's friend, he has the best lines in the show and some great sarcastic lines for the sheriff. Buchanan just about stole the show here as "Pop Michaels."

I also thought I was looking at film star Vera Miles, but it turned out to be Kasey Rogers, who is a dead ringer for her.

Josh Randall got knocked out or disarmed by the time you read this
Like the show but he's always losing his gun or getting his head bashed.

I am a great fan of Vera Miles and I think she actually played Francie Keene in Wanted Dead Or Alive (Railroaded.) I just watched it and she called a woman named Marty to relieve her twice at the card table. I think Kasey Rogers actually played the card player, Marty. None of the unnamed card players in the full cast were females. They are both very pretty ladies. (Vera Miles and Kasey Roger). I think Edgar Buchanan (Pop Michaels) were the real star and made it real funny. He had some really good lines. Steve McQueen is a very good actor and he worked great with Edgar Buchanan. This were my favorite episode of all of the Wanted Dead Or Alive television series.
