- Former confederate soldiers are plotting to steal ammunition from the Wagon Train. When delays threaten to get the inside man, Robinson, thrown off the wagon train he hires Willie Moran as his driver. Willie fought with Major Seth Adams in the civil war. But now Willie has fallen on hard times. We first see Willie getting thrown out a saloon. He has become a drunk. Wagon master Major Seth Adams tells Willie that the first time he gets drunk he is off the train. Widow Mary Palmer and her children inspire Willie to stay sober. When Willie sees Robinson and his friends doing suspicious things they must get Willie discredited to carry out their plot. Willie is wonderfully played by Ernest Borgnine.
