- Flint McCullough: The way I see it, we don't have a chance in the cell. But once we're in the tunnel, we're moving around. The guards can't watch us as close.
- Miles Van Vander: Wilkins has got that rifle of his.
- Flint McCullough: And we've got picks and spades.
- Tom Duncan: Against rifles?
- Flint McCullough: Nobody said it was gonna be easy.
- Major Seth Adams: How long has it been since the three of us bellied up to a bar and put our feet on a brass rail.
- Charlie Wooster: Been so long my mind don't go back that far.
- Major Seth Adams: That kinda figures. McCullough's probably been lollygagging around here for four or five days while we've been sweating it out.
- Bill Hawks: That's not like McCullough, Major. He's not a jug hound like some people we know.
- Major Seth Adams: [to Charlie] Come on, Jug hound.
- Charlie Wooster: Jug hound, hmmph.
- Flint McCullough: When I signed on with you, I hired to scout for this outfit, not to work as some day labourer.
- Major Seth Adams: You signed on to do whatever I tell yer. Now you get off that horse and give us a hand, or I'll get somebody who will.
- Flint McCullough: Get 'em.
- Major Seth Adams: That's good enough for me.
- Major Seth Adams: Come on, Charlie, put some weight on it.
- Charlie Wooster: How much weight do you think I've got?
- Bill Hawks: Put something on it.
- Major Seth Adams: Ready?
- Flint McCullough: I'm back, Major.
- Major Seth Adams: It's about time. Come on, get off there and give us a hand here.
- Flint McCullough: Not today.
- Major Seth Adams: Put her down.
- Sophie: You just got to be from the South, Mister McCullough.
- Flint McCullough: Virginia, Ma'am.
- Sophie: Ooh, the old Dominion. We ought to drink to that.
- Flint McCullough: To Virginia.
- Sophie: I always say you can tell a Virginian by the way he treats a lady. And the way he can hold his liquor.
- Flint McCullough: As far as ladies are concerned, Ma'am, just comes natural. Any man that's been across the Missouri, if he can't hold his liquor, he ain't much of a man.
- [He acts as though he can't hold his liquor, the 'lady' has spiked his drink]
- Flint McCullough: Aren't you kinda whistling in the dark? I said, what if he didn't make it?
- Bill Collier: Watch your mouth. Now, Amos said he'll be back and he will be.
- Tom Duncan: You gotta go on living, Flint, no matter how miserable you are. Why, living is living. It's your life and people want to live. You can put up with an awful lot to live.
- Flint McCullough: Like this?
- Flint McCullough: You know if you get out of this prison, I think you're gonna walk right back into another one.
- Bill Collier: I can take care of myself.
- Flint McCullough: Can ya?
- Flint McCullough: Tom, can you rattle some of that dynamite?
- Tom Duncan: Why?
- Flint McCullough: I got an idea.
- Tom Duncan: To get us out? I've been ratholing sticks over since I got here.
- Flint McCullough: Why don't you use them?
- Tom Duncan: I didn't want to until I was sure.
- Charlie Wooster: Whiskey.
- Bill Hawks: Why don't you wait until the lady asks yer, Charlie.
- Charlie Wooster: I like to get things done, that's why.
- Bill Collier: Y'know I never had too many friends, Flint.
- Flint McCullough: You can find them anywhere you look. But you have to look.
- Tom Duncan: No, no, no. Not that one, son. That one's mine.
- Flint McCullough: Hey, that looks like gold.
- Tom Duncan: Yep, it is.
- Flint McCullough: Where'd you get it?
- Tom Duncan: In here. In the tunnel. There ain't no more of it. I've been mining for a whole lot of years and I ain't seen nothing like that. As far as I can tell, there ain't any more gold in the whole of these mountains.
- Flint McCullough: It wouldn't make any difference to us if the whole mountain was made out of gold.
- Major Seth Adams: We could take a run into Silver Creek.
- Bill Hawks: Folks tell me it's right pretty over that way.
- Major Seth Adams: Yessir a little recreation wouldn't do us any harm.
- Charlie Wooster: Say, that's where McCullough went when he left the wagon train.
- Major Seth Adams: That's got nothing to do with it.
- Charlie Wooster: Oh.
- Major Seth Adams: Just never seen the place, kinda like to take a look at it.
- Charlie Wooster: It's all right with me as long as they got a saloon. When do we leave? In the morning?
- Major Seth Adams: Go right now. Why don't you saddle up the horses instead of sitting there like a cow waiting to be milked.
- Hank Morton: You ever do any digging?
- Flint McCullough: No. And that's only part of it.
- Hank Morton: Well, you're gonna help dig a tunnel, McCullough. And you gonna work hard, and you gonna work long, and you gonna do what you're told. Or you gonna get a taste of this... Hold it there, take it easy with that rifle. I don't want him damaged. He got a lot of spunk, at first.
- Bill Collier: You make me sick, McCullough. What about that wagon train you scout for? Don't they miss you? You may be an important man outside but in here you're just fresh fish.
- Bill Collier: Did you ever dig a hole standing knee deep in hot water? Well, you're going to.
- Tom Duncan: The only reason you're here is that no man in their right mind would work in this tunnel. If he had a chance.
- Flint McCullough: What happens when the tunnel is finished?
- Bill Collier: Morton will take care of that. He used to be in the China trade. He knows all about shanghai-ing.
