  • The Virginian looks for Stacey in a town where they are to finish up a cattle deal. His search results in finding Stacey in jail found guilty of murder. He is to hang the next morning forcing The Virginian to find the real killer fast.
  • The Virginian arrives in a town to meet Stacey after completing a cattle deal with a local mine. He looks for Stacey who he is to meet there. At the saloon a deputy quickly exits when The Virginian asks about Stacey leaving it to the saloon owner Clara to break the news that Stacey is in jail. At the jail he finds Stacey convicted of murdering the very popular and respected local doctor John Marsh. Stacey is scheduled to hang the next morning. The town acted quickly believing Stacey is guilty after losing his money in a card game and having a dispute with the victim during the game plus two men found him by the dead doctor. The Virginian asks for a delay but the town officials refuse. The local telegraph messages are relayed by horseback preventing speedy access to outside help or Stacey's family. The Virginian must use his detective skills to uncover the truth and skeletons of the town to prove Stacey is innocent. Everyone is reluctant to talk due to the reputation of the doctor but there are rumors plus some in town try to stop The Virginian in his work as he searches for answers.—Anonymous
