Strangers In Town
bkoganbing25 January 2020
Some rather roughewn Metis are in Medicine Bow, they come in as soon as Sheriff Clu Gulagher is out of town, They're there waiting for a leader to take them back to Canada to maybe once again try a revolt.

Metis are mixed blood people, French and British trappers who mated with Indian women. Two rebellions against the Canadian government were unsuccessful and they were led by Louis Riel. I guess they're trying a third.

This group is led by John Anderson and he and temporary Shiloh manager John Dehner have some history. But when one of the saloon women claims one of the Metis molested here, the good townsfolk of Medicine Bend is up in arms.

A nice episode about the value of law and order and due process, Vigilantism is a terrible thing under any circumstances.

Thirsty beyoch ruins entire town.

Warning: Spoilers
I truly think John Dehner was a great actor. Sadly i just never took to him as Morgan Starr on the Virginian. Guess the writers wanted to give the V a nemesis so he'd look like more the hero but imo it backfired. This is probably Mr Dehner's best episode, at least he's kind of likable. Almost human even? Anyhoo this whole show is said to revolve around vigilantism but it's really ab Louise Devers being a big fat liar. She is the true definition of: ASKING FOR IT. When Jean called her bluff and took some hair as forfeit, she was embarrassed and pissed! Crazy beyoch was determined to punish him for his "masculine arrogance". Luckily the V is suspicious. He did a swell job confronting her, really enjoyed that. Also don't forget the budding romance btw Jeremiah and Connie ... whoops! Nevermind. Just tryna say this episode had a lot going on. Though i would've preferred Ms Dever's punishment to be more than "you deserve to be PITIED." Thirsty beyoch.

Strange Harvest

Warning: Spoilers
This episode is not up to the usual high standards of the Virginian. The story is weak, and the second appearance of John Dehner as Morgan Starr is not impressive, while also relegating the Virginian to second banana.

There are also some odd coincidences, such as Starr (who is for Texas) encountering an old friend who is Canadian, and who then later kills him.

The circumstance of the sheriff being out of town for a few days is also used as a pretext for vigilantism, which I find hard to believe.

Interesting episode - underrated here

I am trying to give some balance here. The acting is great as usual. The storyline is rather unusual. But it is important how it involves the fears of people - a common theme in Westerns. Well worth watching.
