Okay Episode But With Flaws

HEAVY SPOILERS

K.C. has a friend working in the re-election office of Senator Hayworth. Unfortunately she's been having an affair with the Senator and when out on a drive she admits to him that she's pregnant, only then realizing by his reaction that he never really loved her and she had been a fool the whole time.

He's kicked out and emotionally distraught, she runs her car off an embankment, trapping her in the car on the Hayworth property outskirts. Senator Hayworth runs home to call for help but his mother intervenes and convinces him his career would be over, and let's their "assistant" take care of her (AKA: murder her). To be fair, never in the episode did he learn the mother was behind it, but that could have been written in.

But she called K.C. and left a message about her pregnancy and the Senator, which leads to an investigation.

The Senator's party affiliation is left ambiguous, though the accident bares some resemblance to Ted Kennedy and how he handled the situation in the Chappaquiddick incident.

The episode is okay, has a level of drama, and Chapel pulls off a interesting "clean up" man, but the out come is odd. Chapel ruins the Senator's life and gets him arrest for treason, but at best the Senator is just a sleaze who should have lost his wife and the election; all he did was say yes to his mother's idea of having the pregnant officer staffer offed. And the man who did kill her, appears to have had nothing more happen to him than be arrested for interfering with the F.B.I. arrest. Meanwhile his mother, who came up with the idea of killing the young lady, gets to live a free woman with nothing more than remorse; the two people who SHOULD have gotten it, didn't.

And the odd addition of the Senator's mother making out with him implying some kind of incest, does nothing for the story line, goes nowhere, and should have been left on the cutting room floor.
