Van Der Valk pursues a group of armed robbers, when one of them tries to flee the scene, he accidentally knocks over and kills one of them, after that event a Vendetta begins against him and Arlette.

It's all change, the show has returned after a break, but Kroon has gone, Susan Travers has gone, Can Der Valk's DAF and most of Barry Foster's hair has gone.

New to this series, Nigel Stock, Joanna Dunham and I think the series is now on film, it looks very polished. I'm just glad they didn't dare change the theme music.

I thoroughly enjoyed this episode, they've clearly taken the show up a few notches, apart from looking a whole lot better, the story is a very good one, it's gripping, it's intriguing, and there's a definite sense of malice, even the odd horror sequence.

Dunham is excellent as Arlette, a really fine actress, she and Foster make a good team.

8/10.

The first episode of the third series of Van der Valk starts off with an exciting pre credit car chase on the streets of Amsterdam. With all the Ford cars this could be an episode of The Sweeney.

Van der Valk runs over one of the masked robbers fleeing, it turns out to be a woman and she is dead.

Feeling remorse he attends her funeral and faces the dead woman's angry brother. Her husband is more sympathetic, after all she was a habitual robber who was involved in the death of a bank guard.

Now both Van Der Valk and his wife Arlette face increasing danger as they are stalked. Arlette has her car tyre slashed and her house plants are sprayed with acid.

The third series was completely filmed in Amsterdam. None of the indoor scenes were shot on a London studio on videotape as it happened in the first two series.

The story gets tense as the dangers the Van der Valks face gets deadlier. However the twist was rather obvious.
