- Colonel Paul Foster is a test pilot whose aircraft is accidentally caught up in a battle between an Unidentified Flying Object and a SHADO rocket. Foster's plane is shot down and his co-pilot is killed. When he comes round in hospital nobody will believe his fanciful story of what he saw. Until he is made an offer that he cannot refuse, namely an invitation to join SHADO and donate his skills or, quite simply, death.—don @ minifie-1
- The SHADO and its moon base attack several UFO's. Some of them are down, but in the process a test plane is also sent crashing. The co-pilot dies, but the pilot, Col. Paul Foster (Michael Billington) survives to tell the tale.
Everybody thinks he's gone crazy. In fact, he has reported several sightings some years ago. The nurse (Sue Gerrard), says that Paul must have been confused. In fact, he has been sleeping in hospital for half a week. Ed Straker (Ed Bishop) t ries to convince him that it was his mistake, and sends Dr Doug Jackson (Vladek Sheybal) to give him some psychology tests. Dr Jackson also shows him the black cage videotape, from whose images the UFO had been erased. Paul insists on the veracity of what he saw.
Paul doesn't let it go. The sister of the late co-pilot Joan Harrington (Antonia Ellis) also investigates. Paul succeeds in entering the SHADO and faces Straker, who looks to be about to kill him in one of the film company warehouses. However, Straker finally decides that he'll give Paulo the opportunity to join forces with SHADO, and the supposed sister of the deceased pilot turns out to be one of the SHADO officers.
Paul accepts.
