A transitional episode
gridoon20245 July 2009
Warning: Spoilers
"Daddy's Girl" is one of the lesser "Tru Calling" episodes in terms of its mystery: the only real twist there is that the apparent "mugging" of Tru's stepmother was not a random act of violence, but an attack with a very specific target. The focus here is mostly on Tru's relationship with her father, and on the links of the current events to her past and to the murder of her similarly gifted mother. Some shocking revelations move the show to darker territory than before. In a sub-plot, Jason Priestley makes his first appearance on the show as an enigmatic character who is strongly hinted to have something very unusual about him as well, possibly as the result of a near-death experience he had in the past (his heart had stopped for 3+ minutes). But at this point all these are still just hints. The major function of "Daddy's Girl" is to set up the upcoming episodes. *** out of 4.

Introducing ... Jack Harper

Warning: Spoilers
This is the episode when Tru Calling gets serious. Tru finds herself at a family meeting with her siblings and the step mother. Unfortunately there is bad blood between the two and Tru rejects the notion of attending her father's birthday party.

That night Jordan is brutally stabbed to death and suddenly our hero is sent back to relive the day all over again. After saving the intended victim we learn the murderer is the same one who shot Tru's mum. In a shocking twist we also learn that Tru's father paid the hit-man to kill his wife.

In this episode we also meet Jack Harper, played brilliantly by Jason Priestley. He successfully applies for the job as morgue attendant and soon we find he has a lot of questions. He claims to be have suffered a near death experience which dramatically changed the course of his life.

Tru Calling is shaping up well.
