This has to be one of the granddaddy episodes that paved the way for the archetype of old coots reuniting for one last big stickup before complete old age. In this case it's Henry Hull as Ben Moss who gets out of prison after a twenty year stint who calls on his old gang, all men over 50, to get back together. In this case we have some great old character actors—Ray Teal, Peter Broco—who get to try a trial run and then get talked into trying to rob a bank for real. Hobby finally catches on and foils the robbery but Ben Moss decides to go down with guns blazing giving further fuel to The Legend of Ben Moss, the Texas Robin Hood. Ellen Corby (The Waltons) runs the local paper and while she regrets it, she has to publish the story that once again has young kids in the street playing sheriffs vs the Ben Moss gang. I guess some old story lines just can't help being recast year after year.
