Quotes

  • Sheriff Eden Lake : Is he dead?

Hoby Gilman : It don't make much difference, does it? He's gonna wind up the same way.

  • [last lines]

Narrator : On the way back to the sheriff's office, it was learned that Millie Gwyn would recover from the beating she'd sustained. The news didn't seem to affect Norval Franklin. He continued to be sullen, and uncooperative.

Hoby Gilman : You want to tell us why you killed Jeff Krail?

Sheriff Neilson : Come on, Norv. Save us lot of trouble.

Hoby Gilman : You did kill him, didn't ya?

    [Norval nods]

    Hoby Gilman : Why?

Norval Franklin : Because he wouldn't leave her alone.

    Hoby Gilman : Millie?

Norval Franklin : I begged him. I asked him to keep away from her. He says, said he was gonna leave his wife. The two o' them were gonna run away together. But he didn't mean it. His wife wasn't gonna give 'im a divorce.

Sheriff Eden Lake : She knew about the Gwyn girl?

Norval Franklin : Sure. If I hadn't killed 'im, she would've. I had to do it. You don't know Millie. You don't know 'er. I couldn't live without her. I don't know if I even want to try.

Hoby Gilman : That's all right, Franklin. You won't have to.
