- Eric has stupidly betrayed himself, since Red thought he was smelling incense every time the gang lit up some weed in the basement. The veteran turns himself into a sadistic prison guard, determined to make his life safe but miserable. Eric has no keys to the Vista Cruiser (Red had taken those away too), so Eric and Donna make out in Red's driveway.
Even Laurie's mean fun soon ceases when the curfew applies to her too. Red says that Laurie sneaking around with Kelso is plain unpleasant. Kitty tells Red that she does not like the way he is treating the kids. Red says that he wont let kids go down the wrong path. Kitty wants Red to be less strict and more loving. Red responds by sitting with the gang whenever they visit the house.
After a failed escape attempt Eric's basement bunch is banned from the house too, which is particularly disastrous for Eric and Kelso's (Ashton Kutcher) love-life. Eric starts to leave the house without Red's permission, whenever Red is out on an errand. Red installs Christmas bells on all doors, so that nobody can escape without his knowledge. Kitty is distraught to see her happy bells being used for such a sadistic purpose.
Jackie still lusts after Hyde and Fez (Wilmer Valderrama) is sad that she wouldn't even have a 2nd look at him. Jackie is convinced that Hyde wont admit to love, as that is his defense mechanism of protecting himself and prevent himself from being hurt.
Kitty is their last hope...Kitty is worried that the way Red is enforcing his rules, Eric and Hyde will soon leave the house and she will be all alone. She believes that the society will judge her as a bad mother which is why her sons chose not to live with her and run away from house. Kitty wants Red to forgive Eric once in a while and to ease up on him. Red is convinced that for Eric to be a well-adjusted adult, he has to be miserable now. Red argues that if he steps back now, Eric might turn into a goth hippie. When Eric tries to sneak out the next time (the whole gang tries to walk away with the Vista Cruiser by pushing it out of the driveway), Red bans Eric's friends from entering the house and the basement.
Red resorts to surprise bed checks when Donna and Kelso enter the house secretly to make out with Eric and Laurie respectively. When Red enters Eric's room, Donna manages to sneak out and hide in Laurie's room where she was making out with Kelso. Kelso thinks that Donna wants a threesome and gets hit by both the girls. When Red comes into Laurie's room, Kelso and Donna hide under the bed. Kelso tries to feel up Donna under the bed.
Kitty loses it when Red proposes even more discipline when he finds the entire gang trying to sneak out together. Kitty tells Red to remember that Eric is a good son and wants him to forget anything happened and make the house happy again. Red complies
