Alex gives his daughter his driver's license, in order for her to have a picture of him. Since this was filmed in 1978 and Alex is from New York, at the time, NY driver's licenses didn't have pictures on them until 1984.

After the telephone fault allowing free calls is discovered, John Burns asks Alex if he wants to make a call and Alex says he doesn't have anyone to call. When John sits down next to Alex, the next two lines of dialogue are very obviously post-dubbed while the actors' faces are turned away from the camera, so much so that John briefly sounds as if his voice was provided by a different actor.
Kathy was raised from the age of 2 in South America, presumably Rio de Janeiro since that's where Alex phones, but speaks with a full American accent. If she spent most of her life in Brazil, even with an American mother, she would most likely have spent the majority of her life speaking Portuguese.
