Captain Rawlings, of the U.S. Calvary, asks Jim Hardie sent by Wells Fargo to find out if a woman operating a gambling casino and ranch, Leah Harper, is shipping illegal guns to the Cheyenne Indians via Wells Fargo as farm tools.
Jim Hardie is sent by Wells Fargo to Grass River at the request of Army Captain Rawlings to help investigate if rifles are being shipped to the Cheyenne Chief Red Hand via Wells Fargo as farm tools. Jim with the local Wells Fargo agent Pitt Simes meet with Captain Rawlings who asked to see some invoices for farm tools. He recognizes the shipper Sam Tustin but not the woman receiving them, Leah Harper. Simes tells them that she owns the local casino as well as a ranch outside of town. The mystery is why she would be involved. A bit later a man comes to the office named Jebediah Skane who says he can provide some information on Leah for a few dollars. After hearing his story Jim tries talking to Leah but is rebuffed so tries the foreman Matt Taylor at her ranch. He is in love with Leah but is unaware of her actions. However, he is able to take Jim to a site that might be involved.—Anonymous
