- Professor Peterson: Do you remember those meter fragments I had a while back? The ones you threw into outer space?
- Superboy: How could I forget? Every time I got near them, I felt like I was dying.
- Professor Peterson: [unveiling a laser] Well, before we disposed of them, I managed to isolate some of the unique radiation that proved to be so... so deadly to you.
- [putting his arm in place]
- Professor Peterson: Now, hold it right there.
- Superboy: This is going to hurt, isn't it?
- Professor Peterson: [turning it on] It might.
- Superboy: Nothing.
- Professor Peterson: [increasing the intensity] Just wait.
- [after a moment, Superboy groans in pain]
- Professor Peterson: Ah, don't move. Don't... don't touch it.
- Superboy: [watching him take a skin sample] I guess it worked.
- Professor Peterson: [amused laugh] I think that's a fair assumption.
- Johnson: Clark Kent, I must find him. Where is he?
- Jonathan Kent: Is he in some sort of trouble, officer?
- Johnson: I must find him. Where is he?
- Jonathan Kent: Well, he's not here. I'll be seeing him in a little bit. Is there something you'd like me to pass on?
- Johnson: I'll pass it on personally. Where is he?
- Jonathan Kent: I don't like the tone of your voice, mister. If you've got a legal paper, I'll cooperate. If not, then you back off!
- [Johnson leaves without another word]
- Jonathan Kent: Oh, boy. City cops. Are they something, phew.
- Dean Lockhardt: Where are those contact sheets I asked for? Get it together, kiddo. We've got a paper to put to bed.
- T.J. White: You wanted me to get some photos of that robbery mess down at the, uh, science laboratory.
- Dean Lockhardt: I'd like to see them.
- T.J. White: Well, I don't have 'em. Before I can get started on that, you wanted a checklist of all the camera and darkroom equipment.
- Dean Lockhardt: So where are those contact sheets I asked for? Get it together, kiddo. We've got a paper to put to bed.
- T.J. White: Okay, I'm doing the best I can, Dean Lockhardt.
- Dean Lockhardt: Do better.
- T.J. White: [more to himself] I should have stayed with my first ambition, stand-up comedian.
- Jonathan Kent: Well, looks like college agrees with you, son.
- Clark Kent: How's Ma?
- Jonathan Kent: She took a nasty fall. She didn't break any bones or anything, but it sure slows her down quite a bit. She wouldn't hear of me staying home with her. No, she said I've been looking forward to this trip for too long.
- Clark Kent: S-She's not in any pain, is she, Pa?
- Jonathan Kent: No, the only pain she's in is that she can't be here with us.
- Clark Kent: I tell you, I miss her. I miss both of you.
- Jonathan Kent: Hey, stop that kind of talk or I'll start blubbering like a newborn calf.
- Clark Kent: Pa, since when do newborn calves blubber?
- Jonathan Kent: Well, I don't... it's something I just made up, that's all.
- Lt. Harris: I'm glad to see you on your feet, Superboy. You up to a few questions?
- Professor Peterson: I don't want to delay getting him to my office to check him out.
- Lt. Harris: You kidding? Check out Superboy?
- Professor Peterson: He was unconscious, Lieutenant. Why take chances? I'm sure your questions can wait.
- Superboy: I tried to tell you, professor, it's the way I am.
- Professor Peterson: The term is "invulnerable." But if I don't get some kind of sample, we'll never determine what you're made of.
