- At Susan's urging, Jack hires a friend of Nana's, a seemingly sweet senior citizen, who ends up suing The Gate for age discrimination.
- As a result of Susan's prodding, Jack hires a friend of Nana's to work at The Gate. One she is hired, she deliberately screws up around the office, doing things like opening the film developing lab while a light is on and deliberately deleting a story that Susan did and had to redo as a result, prompting Susan to fire her. Just as they thought they heard the last of Midge, an errand person comes to the gate with a court subpoena because Midge is suing the gate for age discrimination. Subsequently there are a bunch of senior citizens picketing the gate for bad treatment of old people. Jack's lawyers suggests that the gate settle this out of court, but Jack says no, since it would prompt an invitation for others to do the same. On the day of the court, both sides are getting nowhere as Midge and her attorney ask the Gate employees about what usually happens in life( does your boyfriend mumble, what does a blinking light mean on the road?). So they resort to buying two tape recorders one a pocket model and one a big model as backup and get Midge to confess that she is suing the Gate just to get money she knowingly doesn't deserve. It works and Midge is sentenced to 5 months community service for perjury with intent to defraud. Meanwhile they gate hires an old man to fill Midge's shoes.
