Warning: Spoilers
What did I just see? I'm not sure I will ever know.

Someone is trying to kill the Golden Angel, a pro-wrestler who wears a shiny gold body suit and mask, complete with halo. Enter Starsky and Hutch to protect the Angel and catch the would-be killer.

Well, mostly Hutch. Starsky and Hutch split up early in the episode and track down different leads and question suspects separately. I think PMG had the week off. I didn't watch carefully, but I have the feeling that most of Starsky's scenes were filmed in one day and he wasn't much involved in this episode. Maybe he just couldn't take it anymore. Starsky impersonates the Golden Angel in the end sequence, but because of the costume and mask, I doubt PMG actually had to be there for much of that. When PMG AND DS don't spend much time on screen together, the show suffers.

As if it wasn't suffering already from this story line. The first half seemed a little serious, but then it goes way off the rails for the second half. Totally out of control. No explanation for any of the decisions, no discussion of the plan. The way the final scene was set up, Starsky and Hutch almost had to know who they were trying to catch, but Hutch expresses surprise anyway when they finally trap the culprit. Even Dobey has to participate in a pratfall-type gag. And then we have the opening and closing tags with Starsky as the Born Loser again; that just never gets old.

Certainly other TV dramas have put their principle characters in crazy situations, weird personas and silly undercover costumes. I can think of several I've seen in Bones. So it didn't start with Starsky and Hutch and certainly didn't end there. Still, it does not usually make for a very successful episode, either then or now. To call this episode unsuccessful is to be very, very kind.

I rated it a 2 instead of a 1 because I did laugh a couple times in spite of myself. If you wish to preserve your own dignity, I'd advise you to just skip it. You have been warned.

This strange, surreal episode like dandruff doesn't deserve the grade I give, but 6.1 is too low.
