The script does not explore the technology used by the Vidiians to separate out the human and Klingon strands of B'Elanna's DNA, but it is clearly some sort of replication or cloning technology because they create two physically separate B'Elannas where there had been one. This begs the question of how the technology cannot duplicate Vidiian bodies or organs for their use, so that as they decay from their disease they do not have to capture other species to harvest organs.
