Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987)

Star Trek: The Next Generation

Edit

Continuity

The back cloth with sequins that simulates a moving star field outside of the windows is distractingly erratic during this episode. As characters hold conversations in the conference room there are almost no consecutive shots where it is consistent in motion or stillness.
While talking with Riker at a table in 10-Forward, Devinoni Ral moves his glass to be in front of his hand. Next cut, the glass is back behind his hand.

Incorrectly regarded as goofs

Troi orders champagne from the replicator in her quarters. Two glasses appear. The computer did not ask her to specify any details - type of champagne, region grown, vintage etc. It is doubtful that it can only supply one generic version of champagne. It is possible that Troi isn't particularly fussy about her brand of champagne and the computer merely supplies a common or popular example. On the other hand (and this is more likely), if she had a preference, the computer probably already knows what it is.

Revealing mistakes

After DaiMon Goss attempts to fire weapons at the wormhole Picard states such an action has potential to destroy a shuttle craft. Goss responds with the line "Casualties of war, Captain", however this appears to have been re dubbed as Goss can be seen uttering Picard instead of Captain.
When Ral asks Riker if he can join him in Ten Forward, Riker smiles and mouths something, but is not heard. It's possible that the line was muted because it was intended to convey that Riker said nothing one way or another.

Plot holes

Data states near the beginning of the episode that travel from one end of the wormhole to the other should take a matter of seconds. Later he, Geordi, and two Ferengi go through it, stay just one cycle of the wormhole's visibility (233 minutes), and he and Geordi return. Yet on the Alpha Quadrant side of the hole, about 2 days' worth of activity take place.

Character error

After several days of intense negotiation for access to an extremely valuable wormhole believed to be stable and ending in the Gamma quadrant, it should come as a shock that the wormhole is in fact quite different from what it was believed to be. However, when Geordi and Data return from their trip through the wormhole and Geordi reveals that they were in the Delta quadrant, the faces of the 4 characters with an interest in the wormhole on screen at that moment show absolutely no change in emotion.
When Ral and Troi have an intimate dinner, Ral puts his fork into the bowl in front of him and then draws the fork to his mouth, but the fork has nothing on it.
When the Ferengi are threatening to fire a missile at the wormhole, Troi alerts everyone to the fact that the Ferengi are being deceptive. She also implies that she "felt no tension" from the Ferengi, implying that she can read other emotions from them aswell. Ferengi minds cannot be read by empaths or Telepaths.
