The Icarus Factor

Star Trek: The Next Generation

Edit

Continuity

While Kyle Riker is talking with Deanna Troi in Dr. Pulaski's office he clasps his fingers together. The camera angle changes back to Deanna's face, and when it changes back to Kyle his fingers are unclasped and he clasps them again.

Incorrectly regarded as goofs

Kyle Riker mentioned to Deanna that Will was about to be offered his first command, NOT that this is the first time he was offered a command. Command of the Ares was the second time Commander Riker was offered a ship of his own. The first was the U.S.S. Drake, which he turned down in order to serve as the First Officer on the Enterprise, thus Will IS still being offered his "first" command.

Miscellaneous

Montgomery base is referred to repeatedly as "Starbase Montgomery," however, no starbase is actually seen. Instead, the Enterprise is seen orbiting a planet, and Montgomery base is presumably on the planet's surface. Starbases are, by definition, located in outer space. Montgomery base would more accurately be referred to as an outpost.

Errors in geography

In most of the shots of the Enterprise in orbit, the ship is shown above the Mediterranean Sea despite the fact that the planet below is not Earth per the story-line.

Character error

Wesley says "Breaking synchronous orbit," but Enterprise is shown moving in a counter-rotational orbit. Synchronous orbit would mean the ship was moving in the same direction as the planet, and maintaining the same position over a specific land-mass.
Worf barks at Wesley, and instead of going to Counselor Troi, as it is HER JOB, he goes first to Geordie, and the to Data, yet neither of them point him back in her direction. Points for Geordie, having the self-preservation to stay hands off.
