Continuity

After the funeral at the beginning, Dr. Crusher asks Deanna to come with her to her Nana's house, and they both leave the cemetery together. In the next scene, when Picard is talking to Governor Maturin and they arrive at the fence, Deanna can be seen in the background roaming the cemetery on her own. Yet in the following scene again, she arrives with Dr. Crusher at the house.

Miscellaneous

When Picard is in the Howard house, Data contacts him. The sound effect played is used for internal communications aboard the Enterprise, instead of the usual communicator chirp.

Errors in geography

Maturin had very good eyesight. The nearest point of the Highlands to Glamis Castle is well over 50 miles away. Equally, to recreate the Highlands using foundation stones from Inverness, Fort William and Wick would have been more useful than the Lowland cities mentioned.

Plot holes

The premise of the story revolves around the "women of the Howard family," from mother to daughter. However, patrilineal traditions of Scottish history would dictate that the women, when married, would no longer be "Howard" women and neither would their descendants. Yet oddly, 800 years later, Beverly's grandmother is still a "Howard". This is not explained.

Character error

Deanna and Dr. Crusher are inside "Nana's" house after the funeral service. Deanna tells Dr. Crusher that she will "head back to the ship." Then Deanna exits the house through the front door. Why? Can't she just tap her comm badge and have the Enterprise transport her from inside the house? Is there an unspoken transporter etiquette which doesn't allow a person to "beam directly in or out" of a person's house?
