Star Trek: The Next Generation

Edit

Continuity

Previously Data's cat, Spot, has always been a male. However starting with this episode, and continuing through the end of the series, Spot is suddenly a female. It was mentioned in the Star Trek: Encyclopedia that the writers said in a later interview when questioned about this that perhaps Spot had some sort of transporter accident.

Incorrectly regarded as goofs

Serova claims that warp drive is endangering her planet and pleads her case to the Enterprise crew. Then she later flies her ship into space, causes a warp core breach, and blows up her ship, thereby endangering her planet. This is the equivalent of causing a nuclear meltdown yourself to show everyone how dangerous a nuclear reactor is.

This is not a goof, however. She creates this breach far away from her planet, near the entrance to the corridor. While providing clear proof of the problem, she does not endanger her planet.

Revealing mistakes

Data leans down to feed Spot and, as he does this, you can see his sleeve roll up, revealing that the android makeup is limited largely to his hands, as his wrist and upper arm aren't painted. For reference, 16:51 during the episode.
Several wall displays in the episode read RS Corridor. The production staff admitted this was a mistake. The name of the Hekaras Corridor was misspelled on the graphic and then all but the last two incorrect letters were accidentally deleted.

Miscellaneous

Data says that surfing the wave created stresses that were "120% above tolerances." If he had said. "120% of tolerance." he would have been correct. 120% above means 220% of tolerance - more than twice what it was designed to handle. which obviously would have seen the destruction of the Enterprise.
When Geordi and Data are in the Jefferies tube you can see both of them are wearing knee pads under the space suits.

Plot holes

Data reports that the rift increased in size by a little over 1%. Seems like they could use impulse power for that tiny little bit rather than going through the "surfing" garbage. They mention before they went into the rift that impulse power would take a very long time, so it obviously works in there, and they did actually use it to increase the speed of the Enterprise to get closer to the speed of the "waves".

Boom mic visible

When the Ferengi ship appears, and Data and Geordi enter the bridge and take their stations, the boom mic is visible in the reflective panel next to Geordi and behind Riker.
