Jonathan Frakes, Laura Drake, and Brian Thompson in Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987)

Goofs

A Matter Of Honor

Star Trek: The Next Generation

Edit

Continuity

When Commander Riker eats his Klingon "final feast" on board the Enterprise before transferring to the Klingon vessel, a waiter comes over to deliver more food. He sets down, with the help of the others, all but what seems to be one bowl on his tray. The camera angle changes, and the waiter is then shown to hand the same first two bowls of food to Captain Jean-Luc Picard again, both of which should already be on the table.

Incorrectly regarded as goofs

In Coming of Age (1988), in which several young students fight for a place in Starfleet Academy, the Benzite Mordock gains the honor of becoming the first of his race to enter Starfleet. In this episode, less than a year later, Mendon, another Benzite, appears, not as an already graduated Starfleet ensign but as an officer from the Benzite fleet (in the same sort of exchange program as with Riker and the Klingon ship). Mendon is unfamiliar with Starfleet procedures. He instead continues to quote how it is done in his own fleet and, early on, how much better their way is, which would likely not have happened if he had attended the Academy.
Riker's insistence that a father should always be honored is at odds with The Icarus Factor (1989), where it is shown that he is on bad terms with his own father. However, his point is that a father *should* be honored: he never claimed that this always happens.

Revealing mistakes

When Riker steps onto the transporter pad to beam to the Klingon ship, you can see that the transporter pad he's standing on is a soft latex-type compound, and it flexes and kinks under his feet.

Plot holes

When the Klingons speak in their native language, Riker hears it, but it should not work that way as the Universal Translator in his Comm Badge should provide him a translation.
It is unbelievable that Wesley, while on duty and while the Enterprise is at warp, would be permitted to leave his station to walk to the back of the bridge to console Mendon about his being reprimanded by Worf for not reporting the new life form earlier.

Character error

Picard tells Ensign Mendon the Enterprise uses a chain of command system and he should report to Lt. Worf - but Worf wears an Operations uniform while Mendin wears a Science uniform, where they would not be in the same chain of command.
