Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

Continuity

When O'Brien shows Ezri and Odo how the rifle with the mini-transporter works, he holds the rifle right-handed and wears a targeting display over his right eye. When Ezri (answering to Joran) goes to examine the weapon later, she holds it left-handed and the targeting display goes over her left eye. Given the shape of the headset that holds the targeting display, the displays are not universal. She would need to fabricate a new headset or modify the existing one, but she is shown doing neither of those things. The headset has simply changed shape since the last time it was seen.

Factual errors

O'Brien and Bashir can't recall if Ilario had 2 bothers and 2 sisters or 2 brothers and 3 sisters. Bashir's genetically enhanced brain retains information far better than any human. He should be able to recall the number of siblings correctly if Ilario had discussed it with him.

Incorrectly regarded as goofs

Lieutenant Hector Ilario tells Julian that he is 22 years old. Later in the evening, he toasts to the "class of 72," presumably his graduating class from Starfleet Academy. This story takes place in 2375. In 2372, Ilario would have only been 19 years old. Starfleet Academy is a post-secondary school and takes 4 years to complete. Unless Ilario graduated high school at age 15, there's no way he could be 22 years old in 2375 and be 3 years out of the Academy.

There is no indication that cadets need to be 18 before entering the Academy. Wesley Crusher was only 16 the first time he took the entrance exam, and there is no mention of "special circumstances" due to his age, suggesting that letting in 16 year olds is routine.
If the micro-transporter sends the bullet to its target, it will also send the combustion gases and gunshot residue. However, transporter technology can be programmed to filter out things. Plausibly, the micro-transporter could be programmed to only transport the tritanium bullet.

Revealing mistakes

When Ezri picks up the video-picture of the murdered woman and her husband and puts it back down, the woman's hand is on her husband's shoulder. After a camera change, the picture is slightly altered and the woman's hand can no longer be seen. The picture had already stopped playing its recording before Ezri put it down, so the image should have remained static from that point on.
The alien melon that O'Brien uses to demonstrate his theory about shooting with a micro-transporter attached to the rifle is purple. When it is shot and explodes, the actual, green shell is partially exposed, revealing it to be an ordinary watermelon that had been painted purple.
When Ezri is first speaking with Joran in her quarters, she turns away from the mirror to speak with the mental manifestation of him. As he only exists in her mind, he cannot exist anywhere that she is not aware of, yet his reflection remains visible in the mirror. Even though Joran is an illusion, the actor portraying him is not.
When Ezri tackles Ensign Bertram in Quark's bar, it is an obvious stunt double. Nicole de Boer is a very petite, slender, lanky woman. The stunt double is visibly taller, bulkier, and proportioned differently.
After Ezri and Joran examine Greta's quarters, there is an establishing shot of the station before the scene changes to Ezri in Quark's. During that shot of the station, there is a white blob that moves rapidly down the left side of the frame. This would have been hidden on an SD television of the time the episode was broadcast, but is visible when played on a widescreen set.

Crew or equipment visible

When Ezri visits the first victim's quarters for the third time a picture frame is deliberately placed in the foreground. Because it is at an angle the sound technician can be seen reflected in it.

Plot holes

After Ezri refuses to pull the trigger on the rifle and puts it down, Joran taunts her, saying the rifle wasn't even loaded. Joran is a mental manifestation within Ezri's mind. It's not possible for him to have information about things in the real world that she does not.
When O'Brien and Bashir discuss the mythology of Davy Crockett, and it gives O'Brien insight into the nature of the killer, O'Brien repeatedly refers to the killer as "he." The killer has not yet been identified. O'Brien would have no way of knowing their gender at this point. Ezri later makes the same mistake, referring to the as-yet-unidentified killer as "he."

Character error

Sisko and Odo do not seem to know the second victim, even though she was a senior officer holding the rank of Lieutenant Commander and was stationed at DS9 for three years.
As Ezri escorts Lt. Ilario out of Quark's, she states that he isn't the first drunken ensign that she has taken home. However he is wearing the rank insignia of a lieutenant junior grade.
When Joran is talking Ezri through how to choose a victim, she uses the targeting scope to look through walls, into crewmen's quarters. This is a major violation of privacy and violates her oaths as both a Starfleet officer and a medical professional.
When Ezri is using the rifle her finger can be seen on the weapon's trigger. Any sort of training she would have had in the use of weapons would have made it second nature to not touch the trigger until she is ready to shoot.
Ezri tells Joran that, "the sooner we find our killer, the sooner you and I can part company." Joran exists within her mind and she will retain his memories even after his usefulness comes to an end and he is re-suppressed.
