- The team must find out if Tom is really a traitor, and whether he shot the Chief of the Defence Staff.
- After shooting Harry, Tom disappears once again. Evidence clearly speaks against him. Oliver Mace, chairman of Joint Intelligence Committee, seizes the opportunity of the fiasco to take over MI5 and overrule Harry's leadership. An investigation into the entire MI5 office takes place while the entire team is under constant watch. To fill the gap that Tom as a senior officer has left, Adam Carter, an MI6 officer, is recruited by Harry to help out MI5.—R.
- With Harry Pearce in hospital receiving treatment after being shot and Tom missing, presumed drowned, the Chairman of the Joint Intelligence Committee, Oliver Mace, makes a predatory strike to absorb the Service into a broader security agency with a more political agenda. Harry forces himself to work and recruits an MI 6 agent with a bit of an independent streak, Adam Carter, to help him out. They realize that the only way to make things go away - and keep the Service intact - is to prove that Tom is innocent. The mastermind behind the plot against Tom is a CIA agent believed to have died some 5 years before. After he is found dead in a church, they focus on the man's wife, also an ex-agent, to get the information they need to exonerate Tom.—garykmcd
