The show is starting to gel.

In this episode, a camera crew has been given permission to film and interview the staff in the Mayor's office. During the interview with Mike, he makes a comment about his girlfriend and reporter, Ashley, that does not sit well with her.

In the meantime, Carter has talked to the Mayor, without Mike's permission, and got the Mayor to say in a news conference that the administration will be passing out free needles to drug addicts. Of course this makes the administration look like they are soft on drugs and the office goes into spin mode. It is not long until Ashley gets her revenge on Mike's comment.

Even with the series still being in its infancy, the shows are beginning to gel and become more entertaining. The scenes during the press conferences are some of the best as both give the audience a nice laugh. There is nothing but potential material that the writers can choose and it looks like the viewer will be the one winning.

Gets it right, politically

Warning: Spoilers
For a while I was worried this episode was going to convey the message that it's ok for politicians to back out of sensible programs like needle exchange, that are proven to have positive effects for individuals and communities, and I loved that they kept me on my heels on this until the very end of the press conference where the message clearly changes to not being for this obvious thing can only be attributed to politicial cowardice. It's a sure sign of the times when a sitcom junkie like me goes for the politics in an episode rather than the jokes. Altough it may also be a tell of the jokes in the show not being at their best yet. Spin City is still good even not at it's best, but for max funny the best is yet to come.
