- A dying Virgil Swann urges Clark to make contact with Jor-El who sends him on a quest to retrieve three Kryptonian stones of knowledge. Lex and Jason are already searching for a stone in China for their own purposes and behind Lana's back.
- The Kryoptonian metallic disc is returned to Clark following the death of Virgil Swann. Placing the disc in the cave reveals a message from the spirit of Jor-El instructing Clark to find the three Kryptonian knowledge crystals and unite them before others find them and use them to self-interest. The message goes on to tell Clark that allowing a human to assemble the crystals could lead to the destruction of Earth. The first stone, retrieved by Lex in Egypt in the season opener, is in Clark's possession in the cave. The second is apparently in possession of the late Swann's associates. And the third is located somewhere in China. Clark joins forces with Lana where they venture to China to search for the stone where Lex and Jason are also on the hunt for the stone. But they end up captured by the Chinese authorities and tortured for information to the stone's location, and it leads to the spirit of Isobel once again commandeering Lana's body to fight everyone to take the stone for herself.—Shiro
- When Dr. Virgil Swann dies, Clark Kent receives the octagonal metallic disc through mail. He goes to the Kawatche caves and after inserting the disc in a stone, he hears Jor-El ordering him to find the three knowledge stones to protect planet Earth against destruction. Since the first (retrieved from Lex in Egypt in the season opener) is in Clark's possession, the other two must be found. Meanwhile, Lex and Jason are in Shanghai, China trying to locate one of the stones. Lionel Luthor gives a copy of the map and an airplane to Lana Lang, and together with Clark, they travel to China and meet Lex and Jason where they get arrested and tortured in a temple by the oppressive authorities for information about the stone's whereabouts. When Lana is captured and also tortured, 'Isobel' returns to protect Lana's body and to fight Clark for the stone's procession.—Claudio Carvalho, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
