Just another day at the office for Steve Austin
coltras353 October 2023
Revolutionaries kidnap the wife of the US Ambassador to the nation of Balinderry. In exchange for her release, the revolutionaries want their imprisoned fellow revolutionaries freed. With the help of Julia Flood, his liaison with the kidnappers, Steve attempts to rescue the ambassador's wife.

Predictably there's going to be some twists along the way in this average-y yet entertaining episode which has Austin hurling steel drums at the guards, bend bars and tear hinges off the door. The usual day at the office. Adding some glamour is Martine Beswick, who starred in a couple of Bond films in the 1960's. The finale in particular is quite good, bumping the excitement a little.

Kidnapped

Steve Austin(Lee Majors) is sent to the small island republic of Balinderry that is beset in a civil guerrilla war led by the I.B.A.(Independent Dalinberry Army) that seems to have now included kidnapping to their offenses, as the wife of the U.S ambassador was taken hostage, and Steve must go undercover to find her before she is executed. He meets members of Unit 10(played by Martine Beswick and Richard Erdman), a group that is a part of this army, but they maintain their innocence, as indeed it appears that someone is trying to frame them for the crime for their own political reasons. Unmemorable episode using a fictional country in place of Ireland most obviously!

Terrible, terrible episode
gb9013 October 2023
Don't ever remember seeing this episode as a kid in the UK back in the 70s - which is hardly surprising as I have since learned this was originally never broadcast as it banned because of its content!

This episode very obviously displays American sympathies for the IRA which led to its broadcast ban over here.

It's simplistic portrayal of the IRA and their "struggles for freedom" are so one dimensional it's ridiculous. Steve Austin obviously gets over mourning the loss of his childhood sweetheart, the newly made bionic woman, as he quickly falls in love with a gun toting IRA - sorry IBA (which disconcertainty sounds like a stomach condition!) - cell leader and wants to whisk off to America to show her the sights. She declines because she wants to stay and fight the good fight.

Considering the USA's intervention in other states affairs this episode is incredibly trite, and, frankly, insulting!

Oh Mr Porter is one of funniest comedy's of all time. But it's a comedy. It's also more series than this rediculous episode of SMDM.

Only Farah Fawsett is missing.
