Underrated!
o-51351-6163212 April 2021
This is definitely one of the greatest episodes of all time, it's unbelievably underrated and it's disappointing to find that it only has an 8.6!

It's by no means a deep episode, but the comedy stands out amongst most Simpsons episodes. I can't tell you how many times I've quoted "Stop, stop, he's already dead!" There are a bunch of other amazing gags here as well, like when Homer sees everyone as clowns, or when the Mafia guy goes "I'm seeing double here, four Krustys!" This episode is rich with humour.

This episode doesn't get the recognition that it should as a Simpsons classic, which sucks because it truly has some of the best comedy in the show!

I will never forget the clown music

Homie the Clown is one of my all-time favourite episodes.

After Krusty finds himself in financial trouble, he opens up a clown college. Meanwhile, Homer checks out the new billboards and decides to join the clown college and become a Krusty impersonator.

It is certainly not one of the deep episodes despite Krusty playing a big role. Episodes involving Krusty sometimes tend to be slow and melancholic to me. Especially in the more recent seasons, Krusty episodes have stopped making me laugh.

However, this episode is one from the good old season, full of laughs and gags, and Krusty is so funny in it. Gags like "we should have bought more than 3 bullets!" or "i see double: 4 Krusties!" will be remembered my whole lifetime, as well as the clown music affecting Homer's mind at the dinner table. Classic!

Homer and Krusty collide

Homie the Clown from season six of The Simpsons is one of the best Krusty the Clown episodes from the series. It has some stiff competition, but I'd put Homie the Clown near the top of the list.

The premise is rock solid. Krusty's spending habits are out of control (likely a function of him betting on the Washington Generals against the Globetrotters and using Action Comics #1 to light his smokes). He finds himself in debt to the mob. Krusty opens up Krusty's Clown College to bring in more bucks. One of their billboards convinces Homer to attend and become a Krusty.

I can imagine the people brainstorming and rough-drafting the animation had a lot of fun with this one. There's something funny and unpredictable about taking Homer and making him a Krusty. Of all the jobs Homer has taken on over the series' length, being a Krusty is still one of the coolest. The pink sedan decked out to look like a clown car is a pleasure to behold.

Homie the Clown resides in the upper echelon of season six episodes in my book; that's high praise.

The same Homer Simpson ....

Krusty opens a college to train regional performers to appear in his character.

This is an excellent episode with great humour.

I find Homie The Clown to be a prolifically funny episode with multiple strong jokes involving characters like Homer, Krusty, and Fat Tony's crew.

It has a mixture of great banter and sight gags with too many to highlight. My favourite verbal joke is the dialogue between Homer and the mobsters when he gives them a number of different names to avoid being identified as Krusty. This is brilliantly written and performed by the voice artists. My favourite visual gag has to be the parachute.

All the movie tributes and references are superb, particularly the mash potatoes.

For me it's a 9.5/10 but I round upwards.

Krusty Squared

Krusty's profligacy causes him to create a clown school. Homer needs cash so he becomes a Krusty Klone. Unfortunately, stereotypical organized criminals enter the picture (Krusty owes them gambling debts). Homer must prove his mettle.

Warning: Spoilers
Here Homer is in effect Krusty the Clown's body double, and it kind of reminded of me a former world leader (for want of a better word) who had a body double to avoid being bumped off I guess. Anyway, Homer manages to get away with some criminal activity by being Krusty the Clown's body double, and it's a lot of fun until it all gets serious with the mob and all.

Homie the Clown is part of what is in my humble opinion the golden era of The Simpsons, being the first 10 seasons, along with some episodes after that which are worth watching. It's hard to believe Homie the Clown debuted nearly 30 years ago.
