Sam, In Danger
Hitchcoc2 March 2019
We start out with Sam and a doctor, looking at x-rays of the heart area of a patient. We don't realize until a bit later, that these are her x-rays and that she is quite ill. She is concerned about the job she is doing because of this distraction. Now she finds she is called in by the Catholic church to check for a miracle. At this time, the wife of a college professor has apparently taken her own life. Lots of crosscurrents at work here.

A STORY TO DRAW YOU IN - MAKE YOU THINK
argy-342678 April 2021
Amanda Burton is the heart of these stories, but the production, supporting actors and especially the script and director create a beautiful and curious conundrum here.

I've only just discovered this series on Foxtel, and it brings back memories of my discussions on the long extinct (Dennis) POTTER LIST.

At first viewing, I suspect a twist on FAITH.

Amanda has to choose a verdict between: Scientific fact, faith, pragmatism, emotional support etc

And now, as I write, it reminds me of Charles Ryder's choice in BRIDESHEAD REVISITED (well, probably the classic ITV production of the eighties)

And, as all good stories do, it leaves so many questions; so many threads unanswered.

Something to ponder on, gently in the night .

Fabulous.

Faith stands out as one of the most unique Silent Witness stories of all time, it's as good now as it was then.

Sam is Ill, she's on a case but feeling her judgement is impaired, she's also been called in by the Church, to perform an autopsy on the forty year old Sister Constance, the church are seeking canonization of her.

I love the story, the fact that we have the always strong Sam Ryan in a place of vulnerability for a change, but most of all it's the dazzling performance of Kathryn Hunter as Sister Geraldine, she is quite remarkable, intensely charismatic. Burton also gives a master class as Sam, a totally different side of her character.

The viewing figures were enormous, hardly surprising, as it's one of the very best. 9/10

You Knew Who Did it

Warning: Spoilers
... but how? The murderer was obvious from almost the first scene but how? Like other reviewers, it was a different character arch for Sam in this storyline. For her to be sick - breathing problems, coughing and then spitting up blood - it all looked very serious. I did find it a tad unbelievable that this unspoken disease could be cured with antibiotics, but where's you faith? I loved the cast in this one: Kathryn Hunter (Sis Geraldine), Prunella Scales (Mother of the victim) and Philip Jackson (DI Mike Toner) were all top notch. I really love Philip Jackson from the Poirot series. It was so nice to see him in this. Good episode.
