A historical story this time around, set during the Dark Ages in which the Celts are menaced by Saxon invaders. We meet Merlin as a kid and see some of his early magic used against a foe. Quite cheap although well cast with numerous familiar faces; it's just not particularly exciting or eventful, and I'm surprised it was so popular that a TV spin-off followed.

A unique episode based around Arthurian legend

This is an interesting episode as it takes place in pre-Arthurian Celtic Britain. The use of Welsh actors to play the celts is a nice touch. The story is a basic one but nicely told. It would appeal to children who enjoy this period of History/mythology. Again the acting is nice and the filming is tightly managed to bring out the best in the story.
