- Carrie meets a jazz musician Ray King (Craig Bierko) while on a pseudo-date with Big. Carrie and the attractive musician on stage lock eyes and start ogling each other and when Big heads over to the bar for more drinks, the musician uses the opportunity to quickly hand her a note: is that oaf you're with your boyfriend? Carrie smilingly shakes her head no, and the musician looks intrigued. Later the trio split a cab together, even though Ray only wanted to go with Carrie, but Big manages to barge in.
Big and Carrie are happy being friends. Carrie tells the gals she went to Monkey Bar with Big last night... The girls disapprove when everyone falls silent at the grisly prospect of Carrie starting up her obnoxious Big Fixation again, she assures them that they're merely enjoying each other's company in the platonic sense. Carrie defends herself saying Big & her are undefinable.
Carrier wants to hide her tryst with Ray from Big. Ray owns the jazz club. Big is jealous when Carrie starts to take interest in Ray. He starts dating a model named Shay (Molly Russell). Samantha tells Big to back off and he does, giving Carrie space to start a relationship with Ray.
Miranda tries to get more comfortable using the bathroom in front of her date Doug (Jim Gaffigan), a cartoonist from the New Yorker. First, Doug pees in front of Miranda while she was brushing. Miranda wants to call it off but decides to let go of some of her boundaries. So, the next time she goes pee-pee, she leaves the door open. But she can't, for more than a few seconds. But Doug takes it to a whole new level by shitting with the door open. Miranda dumps him.
Charlotte is dismayed that Trey only wants to have sex in places where they can get caught. The girls are happy that Charlotte is finally "getting some". Charlotte cackles about how she and Trey have been having sex everywhere they go...but is troubled about it because they haven't officially reconciled (and not because of how traumatic it would be for hapless passers-by to stumble upon them in mid-sex). Samantha waves a dismissive hand in the air and tells her to just enjoy the illicit sex and not try to put a label on it. Charlotte is alarmed when Samantha calls this relationship "normal". She pushes back on Trey when the next time he wants to have sex in back of a cab. She won't sleep with him unless it is his own bed. Trey calls Charlotte later and sheepishly agrees to have sex in his bed.
Samantha meets Maria (Sonia Braga), a Brazilian lesbian painter, at Charlotte's gallery, and questions her own sexuality. All of Maria's artwork at the gallery is sold, and she invites Samantha to her loft to look at her other pieces. Samantha visits her. Maria seduces Samantha, but she just wants to be friends. Maria jokes that that's fine, as long as she buys some of her art pieces. Later Maria admits to Samantha that they can't be just friends. She finds her way too attractive. Samantha kisses Maria.
