Jerry's (Jerry Seinfeld) line, "Then let's see how he does, up there, WITHOUT all the assistance!" is a nearly verbatim quote from bandleader Buddy Rich chewing out his band. Quotes from Buddy Rich were also used in the episodes The Opposite (1994) and The Understudy (1995).
At one point Newman (Wayne Knight) is shown to be reading the novel Alive, the story of a group of plane crash survivors who resort to cannibalism in order to survive.
Episode is dedicated to Brandon Tartikoff. Former NBC president, who passed away a month prior to start of the season.
The NBC executives that approach Bania (Steve Hytner) are named Jay Chermack and Stu Crespi. This is a reference to the two NBC execs that worked with Jerry (Jerry Seinfeld) and George (Jason Alexander) throughout season 4 on their pilot, "Jerry." They first appear in The Pitch (1992) and are named Stu Chermack (Kevin Page) and Jay Crespi (Peter Blood). This further exemplifies Bania's riding of Jerry's coattails during this episode.
Sheena Easton's "Morning Train (Nine to Five)" is played when George (Jason Alexander) gets a job at Play Now. The song was previously used during episode 8.3, The Bizarro Jerry (1996), during the scene of Kramer's (Michael Richards) work sequence.
