The name "Striker" is inconsistent with the naming of the Skipjack Class submarines which were named for famous (or at least highly decorated) WWII Fleet boats. The Fleet boats whose names they inherited were named for game and sport fish.
First when this show was made, this information was Classified. 2021 the following was declassified. A Russian (Not a SeaQuest or USA) Mid Level Officer (O3 or O4 which are Mid Level Ranks) stopped a Nuclear Torpedo being shot on 27 Oct 1962. Interesting this was Classified when this episode was written and produced, they only got the wrong side who saved the day.
The Mk 45 ASTOR (nuclear) torpedo did not enter the Fleet until 1963. The "U.S.S. Striker" would not have carried them during the 1962 Missile Crisis.
O'Neill asks the Commander what the Cuban Missile Crisis was. Being that the Cuban Missile Crisis was a pivotal moment in world history, it is hard to believe that a naval officer would not know that, in any decade or century.
