Tod and Buz are working at Adams Shipbuilding, a family business owned by Leigh Adams and his widowed mother, the family matriarch. The Adamses have a dedicated and loyal crew of employees, led by longtime foreman, Jed Wharton. Tod and Buz are now included. Tod in particular loves the history and tradition of ships and shipbuilding in the coastal New England area. The Adams' business has gone through difficult times over the past few years, the latest vessel just completed being a luxury schooner, the Prudence, built specifically for the person after who it is named. That person is Leigh's grown daughter, Prudence Adams, who is traveling through Europe. Leigh is hoping but not expecting Prudie to come home for the christening, despite a schooner of this type being what she has wanted since she was a child. Prudie purposefully escaped from her upper crust Gloucester life as she wanted to be loved by someone not solely attracted to the family wealth or the Adams name, which she knew would not happen if she stayed. She wants to live her life solely on her own terms. Prudie does return home, but for a reason other than the christening. Upon first sight, both Tod and Buz fall for Prudie, although Buz eventually does not pursue her as he knows she is not his type. Despite Prudie and Tod having more in common, Buz isn't sure if a Tod/Prudie match is made in heaven either. Tod and Prudie do fall in love, but only time will tell if Buz's prognostication for them as a couple is correct.
