This segment was filmed in the fall of 1963 and scheduled to air on CBS November 29, 1963. Because the storyline was extremely coincidental to the November 22, 1963 assassination of President John F. Kennedy, CBS pulled the segment. The segment has appeared in syndication. As of this posting, Chattanooga, Tennessee-based Retro Television Network (RTV) aired the episode on November 11, 2011, which was shown after the show's two-part finale.
There are unconfirmed reports indicating the segment was rescheduled to air on March 20, 1964 on CBS. However, some television listings from that date (including the New York Times and the Seattle Times) printed a story description from a different episode Hey, Moth, Come Eat the Flame (1962).
Originally, the Parkway Inn was a Treadway Inn. In 1960, Sen. John F. Kennedy gave a speech in front of it as part of his Presidential campaign. Three years later, Treadway would move to a new location, and this would become the Parkway Inn. Route 66 then films a show here, only to have it not air due to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in Dallas, TX.
When discussing the possible assassination, the king discusses a club in Dallas and is urged to go onto Los Angeles instead.
