The Rockford Files (1974)

Goofs

Deadlock in Parma

The Rockford Files

Edit

Continuity

When Jim heads to City Hall and asks the clerk to see a copy of proposition 46D, she tells him "The hours are from 4-5". Jim looks at his watch and says "It's only a couple of hours, do you mind if I wait?" The clerk again tells him "The hours are from 4-5". As Jim walks out of City Hall, the Sheriff enters the room and looks at the clerk, you can clearly see the clock above the clerk is at 4:00 exactly.
When Jim and Carrie eat at Tehachapi Belle, Carrie's fork and knife alternate between lying side by side and lying one across the other as the camera angle changes.

Factual errors

The local police officers are displayed as tied to the City of Parma but also have 'County Sheriff' patches at one point. In California, the Sheriffs are at the County level and not at the City level. There is even one time where a 'Parma Sheriff' badge is present.

Also, when the good police arrive at the end they are announced as the 'State Police'. CA does have a little known State Police department but the police that show up are the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
When the mob guys pick up Jim at the motel he calls their car a limo. It is actually just a Cadillac Sedan DeVille. The Stan Belding character later makes the same mistake. Apparently they were unable to obtain a vehicle that matched the script.

Incorrectly regarded as goofs

The mob boss's RV is parked in a wilderness area, yet at one point he picks up a conventional landline desk telephone to make a call. There would be no way for such a phone to be wired into phone service where they were parked.

Correction: Before cellphones became common, many RV sites included a telephone connection along with water, sewer, and electrical connections.

Crew or equipment visible

When the town clerk says "Proposition 46D, right?", a microphone is in frame over her head.
When Lee Melvin's car arrives at the sheriff's office the side of the car reflects members of the crew and several onlookers.
