- When Andrew's father, Roger King, comes home to Avonlea he clashes with Alec over the running of the farm. Meanwhile, Andrew is let down by the lack of attention his absent father pays to him.
- Andrew is excited about the upcoming visit to Avonlea by his father, the "missing" King sibling, Roger King. Roger, a nationally renowned geologist, has completed his work in Brazil and is ready to take Andrew back after the year in which Andrew's Uncle Alec acted as his guardian. In Andrew's few remaining weeks in Avonlea, Hetty is doting on her star pupil, much like she doted on her own sibling Roger when he was a child. Upon Roger's arrival, not much has changed in the dynamic of the King siblings as Hetty is still doting on Roger, planning - but not doing much of the work for - a lavish party honoring him, complete with reporters. But the dynamic has also not changed between the King brothers, Alec and Roger, who have always had a bit of a sibling rivalry. Things go especially sour when a combination of Alec providing neighborly assistance to Amos Spry and Hetty's doting on Roger leads to an embarrassment to the entire King family. In addition, Roger's homecoming isn't exactly as Andrew had envisioned or hoped.—Huggo
