- Mark gets a job from a neighbor who he initialed shied away from because of his facial scars. When his military past is revealed, Mark has to decide if his new friend has been lying or is the man on his trail seeking vengeance justified.
- Mark McCain is a bit afraid of their new neighbor, Will Temple, who has bought the neighboring ranch. Temple seems a nice enough fellow but is badly scarred. Mark comes around however when Temple offers him a job. A Cavalry officer, Lt. Vaughn, arrives looking for an army deserter who is responsible for the death of his entire company. His description of the scar on the deserter's face is identical to Temple's and Mark's yet again has to re-examine his opinion of the man.—garykmcd
- Mark comes across a man with a severly scared face. At first he reacts negatively towards him, but with an offer of a job to earn money to buy a watch he has been eyeing; Mark comes to admire their new neighbor. Lucas and Mark learn that their new neighbor is potentially an Army deserter and traitor. When pressed, the man makes amends to right his misdeeds and retains Mark respect.
