When Holmes, Watson, and Morsten leave with Thaddeus Sholto from his home to confront his brother Bartholomew at Pondicherry Lodge, it is dark; as it was in the book. They arrive in full daylight at the lodge. The book had these events taking place very late at night.
Down at the quayside the dog leads Holmes to some barrels which he says are full of creosote. However when the dog jumps off one of the barrels, it rocks back and forth, showing it to be empty.
When Holmes, Watson and the police sail under the Westminster Bridge, several onlookers can be seen on top of the bridge, clearly wearing modern clothes and all intently watching the police boat pass under the bridge.
In the first second of the closing credits sequence there is an establishing shot of London's bustling Baker Street with many extras and street traffic moving authentically, however, centre-screen, one man at a nearby corner appears frozen, then he suddenly walks forward and around the corner as though responding to an "Action" cue.
When getting into the police launch, Holmes and Watson pass the statue of Boadicea outside Parliament. The statue was not erected until 1902, well after the story is set.
As Holmes scrambles over the roof of the Sholto house in Norwood, a modern multi element TV aerial is in clear view.
When Holmes, Watson and the police sail out on the police launch to lay in wait for the Aurora they sail upstream and under the Westminster Bridge as indicated by Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament in the background. Yet the Aurora was hidden at a ship yard near the Tower Bridge, and when the hunt begins the Tower of London is visible in the background. Both Tower Bridge and the Tower of London are located down the river from Westminster Bridge.
At the beginning, Watson is looking out the window as a cab pulls up outside. The building opposite is clearly shown as number 128. It would be odd for a building opposite number 221B to have a number almost one hundred different, and in fact across the road from 221B is actually number 234.
