Red Dwarf encounters ship crewed by holograms.
This is an enjoyable episode that works well as character development for Rimmer and provides a relatively positive story for him to be involved in for a change.
As a sci-fi concept it's okay and this helps the plot explore the themes of love and sacrifice.
The comedy is great in most parts with the majority of the best lines belonging to Rimmer and some to Kryten early on in response to some of the Cat's suggestions.
Chris Barrie again shows what a talented performer he is and displays an ability to carry a story independently of the other show stars. Craig Charles, Robert Llewelyn and Danny-John Jules are great as always but this one is so focused on Rimmer the other characters mainly provide support once events move to the holoship.
Jane Horrocks has a guest role as a holographic crew member, along with Don Warrington who's cameo includes a funny scene of verbal sparring with Lister.
The episode has quite a Star Trek feel to it, especially on the holoship with its high-achieving characters and one played by Jane Montgomery delivers her lines in an exaggerated Russian accent reminiscent of Pavel Chekhov.
I don't think it's quite funny enough to stand alongside the best episodes of Red Dwarf but it's solid effort. I think it's 7.5/10 but am nice enough to round upwards.
