When a young policeman's wife comes to Frank Marker for help.
It brings Marker to clash with DI Firbank.
PC Holland is accused of stealing £4 from an old lady's purse that he found. DI Firbank has suspended him. However Holland thinks it is more to do with having seen Firbank associate with known criminals.
This is a case that Marker is reluctant to take on. However having tailed Firbank he wants to get his teeth into Firbank as he is acting suspiciously.
Series 5 is wrapped up with Frank Marker being angry that he was used. Especially when he discovers that the £4 was not stolen.
PC Holland was not cut out to be a policeman and Firbank saw an opportunity to push him out of the way. Partly as Holland's wife also did not want him to be on the force and had done a deal with Firbank.
As for DI Firbank's odd behaviour. He was setting up some crooks.
A case of not judging a book by his cover. I wonder if Holland's wife thought Marker would be a rollover. When she came into his office, he was using a cutout to repair a hole in his shoe.
