- [opening narration]
- Peter Gunn: A nightmare crawled through my window a few minutes after two in the morning. I'm sure he never made a sound, but I knew he was there - or rather, I knew something was there - something dangerous.
- Lt. Jacoby: [entering Unesku's house and surprised to see Gunn] Oh, no. I'm gettin' a little tired of this.
- Peter Gunn: Maybe, if you got more rest, Lieutenant.
- Joanna Lund: What now?
- Peter Gunn: Introduction?
- Joanna Lund: Joanna Lund.
- Peter Gunn: Very pretty. Peter Gunn. But no comments required.
- Joanna Lund: Now I'm relieved.
- Peter Gunn: And you smile.
- Joanna Lund: You don't have much trouble with women, do you, Mr. Gunn?
- Peter Gunn: Oh... everyone has trouble with women. I find my biggest problems with the ones that call me Mr. Gunn.
- Joanna Lund: Would you like to buy me that drink now, Pete?
- Peter Gunn: [Reacting after Joanna Lund approaches him to light her cigarette] I'm relieved.
- Joanna Lund: Why?
- Peter Gunn: You cut me up so good in the bar, I haven't quite recovered.
- Joanna Lund: Maybe you give up too easily.
- Peter Gunn: I just wanted to meet you. Things like that happen or they don't. If you work at it, it just gets clumsy.
- Joanna Lund: I don't know whether to be flattered or not.
- Peter Gunn: Please, be flattered.
- Peter Gunn: When it comes to hanging people, Clarence is a little careless. He hangs them just a little bit too high. Joanna's feet were a good 12 inches above that chair. People don't commit suicide when they can't reach their rope.
