Raymond Burr was unable to appear in this episode and for the next three due to a minor surgical procedure. A few scenes, like phone conversations, were filmed in advance. For a few months, from approximately November 1962 through January 1963, he was notably absent. According to the studio spokesperson, Burr was in a Los Angeles area hospital in December and then recovering at home from "minor corrective surgery".
The first of four episodes in which Perry is temporarily replaced in the courtroom. With the feel of a possible spin-off, Perry appears in these episodes only briefly via phone in the hospital or at home recovering. In addition to Bette Davis, guest stars included Michael Rennie, Hugh O'Brian, and Walter Pidgeon.
Bette Davis was a huge fan of the series and thus was more than happy to oblige when asked to fill in for the ailing Raymond Burr.
Jerry Oddo's next to last television appearance. His final appearance was in another Perry Mason (1957) episode, The Case of the Floating Stones (1963). Both episodes first aired in 1963. Oddo passed away in 2003, 40 years later.
