Once Tom knows that he, and all the rest, are prisoners in New Phoenix, he has a conversation with Dee. He displays the bracelet he had attempted to send past the "do not cross line" attached to a kid's RC car, and it's all burned, etc.
Now, sure, Tom's been on the run for a while by now, and should be completely hyper- sensitive about such a thing as a bracelet he had to cut off his wrist with a set of bolt cutters, and that's a quirky little thing. But then it's a quirky little show, except it maybe has a big message.
Dee's been talking about happiness and freedom and security and all kinds of stuff, and Tom says something like, "Free? You call this free?" (while holding up the bracelet).
Then Des says, "WELL, FREE ENOUGH."
And that's the most terrifying thing I have ever heard on television.
