This is one of those episodes where the rational world needs to be put aside. When the malamute shows up as a reincarnation of Rick, some people would have had it. Joel is the voice of reason, but Cecily is a magical place with magical people. The dog really is Rick and he really is a womanizer, showing his true colors after a time. A second subplot is that Marilyn raises ostriches which produce giant eggs, saving Ruth-Anne the trouble of cracking a dozen regular eggs. Of course, Maurice jumps in an decides to make her little herd a business proposition, but these weird creatures have their own ideas. Finally, we have Ed and his movie making. He is a true student of film, especially foreign films (Ruth-Anne really knows her stuff too). When he gets some editing equipment, the footage he has shot doesn't work when edited, and he sadly gives up. But eventually he realizes he is overshooting his mark, trying to be like his friends, Woody, Marty, Frances, and other American greats, when he needed to be his own person, in his own setting. The final scene is wonderful.
