****SPOILERS**** Future police pathologist, in the TV serial "Quincy", Jack Klugman is the harmless neighbor klutz Alfy Tiloff who's homicidal and money hungry wife Myrtle, Jan Sterling, forces him to go against his both nature and better judgment in committing a crime, kidnap & murder, that can well land or strap him him into the state of New York's electric chair. Alfy went along with Myrtle's plan until he realized just how crazy and criminally insane it was but by then it was too or almost too late for him to stop it.

Having Alfy kidnap and drug little Elly Baggett, Helen Norden, Myrtle gets in contact with Elly's mom Dora, Gerry Jedd, asking for a $25,000.00 ransom and insisting that Sutton Place, that one needs lots of dough to live in, resident Allasendro Corbello, Dino De Luca, pay it! It turns out that Carbello who's got millions also has a heart of gold as well as big as all out doors when it comes to saving lives and to save little Elly's for a mer 25 G's is just chump change for him. The NYPD now on the kidnap case under the command of the equally kind hearted and feeling your pain Det. Adam Flint, Paul Burke, try to catch the kidnappers, Mr & Mrs. Tiloff, in the act. But that backfires when Myrtle, the bag lady, sets the place when the ransom money was to be picked up on fire. That has Myrtle dressed as a chambermaid get away, during all the confusion, Scot-free with the cash and the police, who set up a trap for her, left holding the bag!

***SPOILERS*** It was when the coast was clear and with both Alfy & Myrtle about to check out of town with their ill gotten gains that the tables were turned on them. That's by Myrtle insisting to knock off or murder Elly to keep her from talking to the police! Alfy soon realizes what a cold blooded monster his wife is and tries to keep her from murdering Elly which unfortunately leads to his death. That ends with Alfy being hit, while keeping Elly out of harms way and from his wife, by a speeding car! Alfy was no success in life but in death he by saving Elly's life became a genuine hero.
